Mily had a good day but we have technical issues :)
Miy continues to work, work, work. The activity she gets day-to-day now allows her to nap in the afternoon and she's tired enough that she's getting decent rest at night. Her body clock has reset - whew! Her voice sounds wonderful - like soft music. It's a little breathy and whispery, but you can certainly tell it's her and she uses the same Mily vocabulary. She said to me this morning..."what the freak?, I'm in my 30's and I had a stroke!??" It made me want to laugh and cry. So much of this is bittersweet. She tried a bit of cracker today with the speech therapist, which is a very good sign as she has moved to actual solids (albeit very small tidbits) from puddings. She went for a ride in the wheelchair today for her first trip outside in a month. It was cold, but you all know how she is about having air! I'm sure it did a world of good to be able to feel the breeze on her face. Moving on to technical issues: the msgsformily email account is not my favorite format and it has been inundated with emails from all you lovely people who want to help with Mily's wishlist. The contact list in that account does not want to be friends with me so I can send a mass email. I have given round one of the list to family and looks like it is covered for now; if you have offered and haven't heard from me - I will include you in round two and THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming forward! When Mily went into the hospital her laptop was on the fritz and in the shop. I think it's back now, but still isn't quite 'up and running', AND Mily's Blackberry went wacko right around New Years' and lost all of its memory. Given that the family has had other things to think about, they are just getting to remedying this now. ALL of Mily's contacts were lost. Please send your contact info to the msgsformily account. Mily's phone may need to be swapped out, so please don't send anything to it as it may not capture. I have been horribly remiss in not mentioning this issue - it had completely slipped my mind and I apologize. Your phone conversations, emails and posts make her smile - thank you very, very much for putting up with me! B

Well gosh I was about to turn off the computer and here was the next message by the time I finished writing the last one that I did. Darn it now what will I read when I get to work?
ReplyDeleteSo today's miracle was a little bit of cracker!! Woo Hoo!!! Solid foods!! What a wonderful thing for you to discover today!!!
I am trying to figure out what I could make you and send to you? How about some chocolate chip cookies? Or maybe some cupcakes! That might be soft enough to go down pretty easy. I hope that someone will let me know when I can do that.
So Mily with the computer and phone on the blitz I am thinking that is probably a good thing that you have been resting for a while and not had those 2 things to worry about! We don't need to add any worries to your plate now do we!!

ReplyDeleteWell Miss Mily, I am so glad to hear you are handling your solid foods, crackers. If you get a say in the matter, my favorites are Gold Fish and the new baked wheat crackers. Very tasty. I am so glad you got a chance to get outside. I am with you, I need "fresh air" too! Wish you were here yesterday, it was a beautiful day after all of the rain we have been having. Clear as a bell and there was a soft cool breeze. Nature is great for the sole.
Nothing like a room with a view! I can see the snow topped mountains from my desk at work. It helps me keep my sanity when I'm here.
I'm thinking the same would be true for you.
So get on outside again today and enjoy nature.
Hello Grandma Norma, Aunt Jodi, and Mom Sharon.
It's great to see the postings from all of you as well! : )

Mily - I met your mom at the Providence St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia last week in the CCU unit. My grandpa, Sam Lai, has been in the hospital since last Saturday with severe brain damage. He is not necessarily in a state of coma at this point because he opens his eyes from time to time. The Drs. have been telling us that he is not able to respond and the damage to his brain is so significant that even if he was fully awake, he would not be able to communicate or recognize who we are. But my family and I have been hopeful and believe that he can understand us and will not be a vegetable like the Drs. say. Your story is truly inspiring to us and it is people like you that help us hold onto every last morsel of hope. Your mom is a wonderful woman as well. It sounds lke you are doing well, and I wish you on the fast track to full recovery.
