We celebrated New Years with Mily tonite; we wanted to be certain that she was surrounded by loving family and friends and felt safe as we said goodbye to 2009. Present with Mily when the clock struck 12:00 were Danny, Ryan, Millie, Frank, Joshua, Leslie, Melissa, Debbie, Chris, Kari, and myself (Beth). We bought silly little pom pom toys and surrounded her bedside and quietly rang in 2010 together. Mily continues to communicate via signing and has more and more short periods of arousal/wakeful states. I wish I could impart some fabulous new update that said something that hasn't been said before. The simple truth is that she has improved significantly, but is by no means anywhere near out of the woods and still needs all the prayers we can give God to listen to.
The last couple of days have been busy for Mily as she moves along the continuum of healing. As she moves in and out of her wakeful states, it is exhausting for her to have activity for even a few short minutes. That having been said, it is likely that sedation will be increased slightly in the next day or so to give her much needed rest. While the activity is good and important, it is all about balance at this point.
I want to express humble thanks to all of those who check this blog to read these updates (and sometimes listen to me prattle) - your love for Mily can be felt jumping right off the web page with the number of followers and page views. We have received a number of emails to the address set up for Mily, and have now printed those emails so they can be read to Mily and posted on the wall in her room for the staff to see how much she is truly adored. My goal is to wallpaper an entire wall of her room with emails of love and support - SO.....keep 'em coming!
Thank you for everything you are doing for Mily!!!
