She's getting busy on hospital day 30

Mily had a busy day yesterday(Monday). She gets dressed every day now - a nice change from a months' worth of (blech!) hospital gowns. She was taken via wheelchair to the gym where she will be spending lots of time for awhile. It's full of weight machines and neat apperatus for PT to get her going. Speech therapy is working with her daily and for the most part right now evaluating her ability to swallow effectively without pulling anything into her lungs in the process. They also look at whether thin liquids like water are safe or if they need to be thicker. She had a little vanilla pudding yesterday and some thickened cranberry juice which she LOVED. Thickeners can be added to just about anything and don't alter taste at all, so she will surely be enjoying some of her favorite things again soon. She had a hard time with her Levaquin (antibiotic) last night - she started itching; BUT told the nurse she needed Benadryl! Not only did she know what she needed, but she was able to communicate it, and that's exactly what the doc ordered when the nurse called in the fact that she had the itchies. She's having a hard time emotionally with her left arm. She doesn't feel it and isn't moving it, and she is frustrated by it's presence; normal but still difficult for her and for us to hear about. Based on her progress, I think she will do really well with regaining enough function in her left leg to be able to get around safely on her own. As far as regaining function, feeling and dexterity on the left arm long term - that remains to be seen. The likelihood is she will have a deficit that she'll have to learn to accept and manage - but I've been wrong before and would love to be wrong again! Your emails and posts are making her smile - please keep it up in droves - she's not smiling about much else right now. Although the critical phase has passed, she needs to hear from us now more than ever! If anyone is able to help out with some things she needs right now, send me an email to msgsformily@gmail.com and I will pass on what's on the wish list and get you an address for where to send things. Banking details are in process, will have info on monetary donations soon - promise! Have a beautiful day - spend a few minutes in the sun if you get the chance. B

  1. Mils,

I was so happy to talk to you yesterday! I'm pinning down the date to come see you...waiting for how Makenna does this weekend in State Cup and then will know for sure! I have so much to catch you up on but that would take way too much room in this email post so I will fill you in when I get there! If you watched any football this weekend you know the Colts beat the Jets (pretty bad too I may add), and the Saints took the Vikings in OT! (now that was a game...probably way better than the Superbowl will be!!!!) That game had EVERYONE talking on Monday for sure! I'm glad you are doing so well in your progress, be patient (I know...its hard) but know we are all walking this path with you and will be there to pick you up and give you strength when you falter. We all love you and miss you and I can't wait to see you smile!

    Love ya,
    Lisa

Well Missy you sure don't dissappoint do you? I knew that I could count on you to do something miraculous again today and there you are!!
So I know that you are sad about your arm but remember it is going to take time and you know that.
Measure your success everyday by the fact that you are still here and able everyday to perform another miracle small or otherwise! And that you are awake the biggest miracle of all!! And we are so darned proud of you!! And happy to know that you are fighting your way back every day!! I know that your son and husband are so darned happy to hear your whispers of love as is your mom.
Well it is so darned cold here today and has been for a few weeks. You know your last post on your facebook page was when you got home from Orange County after Christmas and you were writing how cold the floor of your house was. I think that my feet have been cold for you ever since!! Hopefully they are keeping them warm for you there in the hospital.
If I find my own miracle maybe I can come up for a weekend to visit you. I will keep you posted on that one!! LOL
Well I am getting ready to watch American Idol tryouts in a little while. So get some rest and before you know it the typing and texting will be right back where it was and you will be the bomb with it once again!!
Hey by the way, Good for you for getting dressed everyday!!
    I love you sweetheart!!

Well I am getting ready to turn the computer off for tonight and thoought that I had better check in on you chicky!! I love you and look forward to hearing your about your next miracle tomorrow morning when I get to work. My mind is so curious as to what was her step in the world of miracles today???? We know that you are getting dressed every day, maybe today's miracle is that you stood for 15 minutes all by yourself, or maybe your miracle is that you had a restful day with less stress. We can only wait and look forward to hearing what it is that you have accomplished in you world of recovery. Good night my amazing niece and have a wonderful day tomorrow!! I love you, Aunt Jodi
