Rough day....potentially serious setback

Mily was handling the clot in her lung yesterday pretty well. Through the night however, her heartrate, blood pressure and respiratory rate have all increased significantly. She has been running a fever which is relatively normal in cases like this, but Mily's temp has reached 104 degrees. The medical team is looking for an infection source and she is already on very strong antibiotics. I am very concerned that these new events are related to one of two things: the clot in her lung growing or moving and causing her to not receive oxygen appropriately (so far her oxygenation levels are stable), or the source of the clot (which is not known for certain at this point) being a serious infection and causing tissue damage wherever it is. If the clot is growing or migrating, the treatment is to use medications to thin the blood and thus help the clot dissolve. The challenge here is that Mily has suffered significant bleeding within her brain. Thinning the blood to manage the clot increases the risk that she could bleed again in her head. There is a very fine line in proceeding forward here. If the source of the clot is the culprit and can be tracked down, she may need a surgical procedure to clean it out. If I am not being clear to anyone that does not have medical knowledge, feel free to post comments with questions and I will clarify gladly. I know you all want honest information, it is just unfortunate that today's news likely puts a lump in your throats.
Up until this point, Mily's sedation has been such that she has been able to respond when roused. The doctors have now added a medication that paralyzes her. Rest assured that her other sedation medications have also been increased as well. This is not an uncommon intervention in critically ill patients. It means that she is still very, very sick and any movement from her just isn't in her best interest right now.
Pray, pray, pray, pray, and did I mention pray. <3

  1. oh, I'm saddened by this news. Renewing my intention to pray without ceasing for Mils, her MDs, her nurses, her family. Grant Mily a full recovery - Please dear God, heal our precious friend. Guide the doctors, give them wisdom, give grace and compassion and healing touch to her nurses. Grant her family strength and peace and comfort. Thank you, Beth, for the update. Thinking and praying for you continually, Mily. much love, MMM

  2. Mily,

Keep fighting with everything you have...we will fight the fight with you! Even though we are (and have been) miles apart you know you are like my sister. You helped raise my daughter into the beautiful, high spirited, independent 12 year old. You have more to do! Who else could have taught her to eat Oreo cookies with her cereal in the morning...LOL! I love you with all my heart, my thoughts are filled with stories of us, my spirit is filled with prayers for you and your family. I miss messaging you everyday so you better hurry up and kick this in the butt! Oh and you can't let me get the last song in...lol! I love you and will see you soon!

    Love,
    Lisa
