more little baby steps

I don't know where to begin; seems like I've used up all my openers for these posts. Mily is doing well; her most recent CT looks 'new normal'. What that means is that her brain has recovered well thus far and structurally things are back where they belong for lack of a better description. Her CT still shows areas of residual injury; time will tell how much impact it'll have on our girl. She is beginning to have periods where she is lightening in her sedation, but she is not responding the way she was before just yet. Per Melissa - when she opens her eyes, they are focused and she appears to understand (when patients are brain injured and/or sedated, it is very normal for them to have a 'no one's home' look). She was removed from the ventilator this evening and breathed exclusively on her own for about an hour. As I explained to Millie, the muscles used in breathing have had a complete two week vacation in Mily's case and they are out of shape. Muscles lose tone quickly and it will take time for Mily to build up both the muscle strength and stamina required for the work of breathing. She'll be doing it on her own longer and longer in no time! The heparin will run continuously and be monitored closely for probably a weeks' time (the med for the clot in her lungs). She is still receiving medications for sedation, but the doses continue to be lowered gradually. Keep praying - you may or may not know this - or may have put it out of your minds, but the neurosurgeon told Mily's family that they thought there was little to no hope two weeks ago. The odds have been more than beaten here, but there is still so far to go. I want to jump up and down with excitement because we have made it this far, just please remember folks that there remains alot of work ahead. The last weeks have been emotional for us, the coming weeks are likely to be emotional ones for Mily. She will need our strength and surety; we will not waiver. I pray at night not just for Mily, but for all of us to be strong in character and in faith on this road we walk so willingly with her. Until tomorrow, B

I just can't tell you how wonderful it is to know that when I wake up in the a.m. that I can come to this blog and know a little more information on how you are doing, it gets my day going I tell you.
Well got Marcos to Urgent care yesterday he was this close to having pnuemonia, so I know when he decides to go to urgent care he is really sick. He is on antibiotics and will be home for another 3 days.
Other than that everyone is pretty darned good. Just keeping you and your loved ones in our prayers so that the strength that we are all sending your way helps to assist you in your recovery. I love that you are making all of these amazing baby steps! We are all so proud of you. Breathing on your own!! They say that is a baby step but boy it sure sounds like a wonderful thing to me! I am so proud of you. Continue on your path of healing as I know God is watching over you. I love you Mily so rest as much as you need but come back to us soon. We won't make you cook or anything but sure would love to see the sparkle in your eyes and hear your laugh. We are all waiting for your return with bated breath!
    Love you, Aunt Jodi

  2. Dear Mily,
My name is Karen Graff. I know and love your sister, Sister Michelle Garcia. We were blessed to have her mission bring her to West Richland, WA. She is a radiant young lady and very much loved for her sparkle, her testimony and her love for the Lord. She is a remarkable missionary. Her simple honest spirit touches others clear down to their toes!!! Sister Garcia wrote asking for prayers and faith in your behalf and I bet EVERYONE in the wards she served are now following your progress. We are grateful for the opportunity to offer our faith and love to you. Through knowing and loving Sister Garcia, I love you too! It's amazing the way God's love works like that. I will continue to pray and fast for you and follow your blog. With best thoughts for steady progress,Karen Graff

  5. Mily Hi my name is Ana Peña, you don't know me, but my husband and I see your mom and dad as part of our family. We have all been praying for you. I look forward to the day when your mom and dad, your brothers and sister, your tia Iris and Roberto and you and your husband and son can come over to our house. We can enjoy some Hondureña food, sing, play the guitar. Enjoy each others company. I promise you, that will happen. Please get better soon. Your mom knows how much fun we have during our little get togethers and we need to share them with you too.
Milly por favor damele un beso y un abrazo grande a tu hija de mi parte.

  6. Hey Mily!

Keep up the great work of recovering, and remember, it takes TIME and a lot of PATIENCE. Remember where you were a minute, an hour, a day ago, and look at all that you have accomplished since then. It is what you have to do to stay sane. Thanks for the posts ladies! They are much appreciated.

    Rachel
