Per Mily's mother's request we started a blog to update Mily's friends about the how Mily is doing. Please understand why this blog has been started: so her friends get updates and Mily's family and the hospital do not get bothered with multiple calls. Everyone wants honest information, and thankfully her family has given us permission to keep you all updated via them and not through multiple sources that may not be accurate. Her mother wanted a blog started with correct information for she is aware how much we all love her. Right now these updates will come via Melissa and Beth who are at the hospital with a clinical perspective. Before I go on to update you on how she is doing please read the following requests from Mily's family:
1. DO NOT CALL THE HOSPITAL- I know it is hard to wait for updates, but every time someone calls to talk to the staff you are taking their attention away from Mily. Neuro ICUs are very different from the standard ICU. A pt's status can be erratic and change at a moment's notice.
2. BE PATIENT-Allowing Mily time to heal in a quiet environment is the best thing for her. Though it is hard to wait we will do our best to update the blog as soon as information is passed to us.
3. PRAY: Please keep Mily and her family in your prayers. And please write to Mily so those words of encouragement can be passed to her. We have set up an email for you to write to Mily and you can make comments on this blog. Though this blog will be used to update those who care for her it will mainly be kept as a journal for Mily so someday she will know what happened.
Update:
Upon Beth and Melissa's arrival this morning they met with Mily's family who has been at Mily's bedside. At this moment we are not 100% sure what happened. Was it an aneurysm? Not sure right now what the main cause of the bleed was, for the main priority at the time was to make sure she was receiving good care and that she was stable. The first thing Beth told me (Karleen) was that Mily is at a hospital that I would feel comfortable with one of my family members being admitted to. Beth informed me that this hospital is a 24 hr stroke center and they have done everything that they should be doing and plan on doing everything that it typical of a caring for a patient in Mily's condition. Long story short: She is at the best hospital, with the best nurses, and best physicians. At the moment she is in the ICU intubated with little assistance from the ventilator and is oxygenating normally. Neurologically she can follow simple commands at times. Keep in mind she is receiving continuous pain and sedation meds via IV so to keep her comfortable. The pressure in her head is normal and the nurses are doing diligent neuro exams to monitor her closely. Last night she had a head CT that showed no increase in swelling or bleeding.
Mily has her family with her including her son, mother, dad, brother, and others. Ryan is doing fine and is being cared for by Mily's parents and child life specialists through the army. Danny, her husband is due to arrive Wednesday evening from his station in Iraq. Until another update is posted please assume that there are no changes. Again, at this time your prayers are the most powerful weapon to help Mily heal. If you want to write to Mily or her family please address them to the following address:
